Basileus, Kappa Alpha Chapter

In the early 30’s a group of Omega men saw a need to come together in an effort to provide service to the community of York, Chester, and Lancaster counties. They knew by follow the Cardinals Principals of Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance and Uplift and the implied motto “Lifting as we climb, they could make a difference.

Thus on May 9th, 1935 The Kappa Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc was born. During the 23rd National Conclave in Atlanta, GA. Grand Basileus Brother Lawrence A. Oxley, 1933-1935, presented the chapter with their Charter.

Dr. Oscar J. Cooper

1888 - 1972

Dr. Oscar J. Cooper

The most honorable Oscar J. Cooper was born in Washington, D.C. He went on to graduate from the M Street High School, Washington, D.C. and obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree, Howard University in 1913. He obtained a Doctor of Medicine Degree from Howard University in 1917, and practiced medicine in Philadelphia, PA for 50 years.

Professor Frank Coleman

1890 - 1967

Professor Frank Coleman

The most honorable Frank Coleman was born in Washington, D.C. He Graduated from the M Street High School, Washington,D.C. & went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science Degree from Howard Univ. in 1913 & a Master of Science Degree from the Univ. of Chicago. He was a Professor & head of the Physics Department at Howard Univ. & a U.S. Army Officer, WWI.

Bishop Edgar A. Love

1891 - 1974

Bishop Edgar A. Love

The most honorable Edgar A. Love was born in Harrisburg, VA. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Howard. He also obtained Bachelor of Divinity Degree, Howard Univ.; a Bachelor of Sacred Theology Degree, Boston Univ.; Doctor of Divinity Degree (Honorary) from Morgan College. He was a U.S. Army Chaplain in WWI, & a Bishop, Methodist Church.

Dr. Ernest E. Just

1883 - 1941

Dr. Ernest E. Just

The most honorable Ernest E. Just was born in Charleston, SC. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree, Dartmouth College (Phi Beta Kappa), and was awarded the Spingarn Medal by the NAACP in 1915. He earned a Dr. of Philosophy Degree, Univ. of Chicago in 1916; and became the 19th honoree in the USPS Black Heritage Stamp Series on Feb. 1, 1996.

Omegas of Rock Hill

The Kappa Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc was born on May 9th, 1935. During the 23rd National Conclave in Atlanta, GA. Grand Basileus Brother Lawrence A. Oxley, 1933-1935, presented the chapter with their Charter.

The Kappa Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., takes an active role within the Rock Hill and Chester communities by participating in Adopt-A-Highway, Assault on Illiteracy, Rolling-N-Rock Hill, Dr. Charles Drew Blood Drive; Foundations Mentoring Program, Weed & Seed Program, and other local events; as well as provide the following scholarships: Sixth District Boys Leadership Summer Camp, Dr. Dewey Duckett Talent Hunt, and the Wade Witherspoon, Sr. Essay scholarships.

The Kappa Alpha Chapter is proud of its rich history of service to the York and Chester County communities for over 80 years.
